Notes: War Admiral was an American thoroughbr ed racehorse that was born at Faraway Farm in Lexington, Kentucky and was owned by Samuel D. Riddle. The horse raced mainly in the Eastern United States and during 1938 he won eight major races including the Whitney Handicap and the Jockey Club Gold Cup. In the 1938 Pimlico Special, War Admiral lost to Seabiscuit by four lengths. War Admiral retired after that race — and became the leading American sire in 1945 and the leading juvenile sire in 1948. It was counted that War Admiral had sired forty stakes winners before his death in 1959. He was elected to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.
