Notes:
Timber
Country
was foaled
in 1992 in
Kentucky
by the
Lowquest
Limited.
He is the
first
horse to
win the
Breeders
Cup
Juvenile
then went
for
winning
one of the
US Triple
crown
races in
the
three-year
-old
category.
His sire
was
Woodman,
who was a
champion
colt in
Ireland
and son of
Mr.
Prospector
. At the
age of
two,
Timber
Country
was bought
for
$500,000
jointly by
Overbrook
Farm,
Gainesway
Stable,
Robert and
Beverly
Lewis and
was
trained by
the US
Hall of
Fame
trainer D.
Wayne
Lukas. In
1994,
Timber
Country
raced at
the
Belmont
Park and
snatched
victory;
this
stunning
performanc
e earned
him US
Champion
2-Year-Old
Colt
honor. In
the next
session,
Timber
country
raced
third in
the San
Rafael
Stakes
followed
by second
in the San
Felipe
Stakes.
Though he
had a
difficult
postpositi
on
seventeen
out of
nineteenth
, Timber
Country
ranked
among the
trailers
for most
of the
race. He
had the
tenth spot
even after
entering
into the
homestretc
h but
managed to
finish
third. In
the next
event, the
Preakness
Stakes,
the second
leg of the
US Triple
Crown
series,
Timber
Country
was the
favorite.
He
clinched
victory
after
overtaking
five
horses
near the
turn.
Everyone
expected
him to win
the final
leg of the
Triple
Crown –
unfortunat
ely he had
to
withdrawn
from the
Belmont
Stakes due
to his
high fever
just the
day before
of that
fateful
race.
Timber
Country
was
retired
from
racing and
was
shipped to
Japan for
breeding
purpose.
He has
produced
many
champion
horses
while
staying in
Japan and
thereafter
in
Australia
and Dubai.
