Proud
Truth is
the second
horse and
is
remembered
for the
glory of
winning
Breeders
Cup
Classic
race.
Dorothy
Galbreath,
wife of a
famous
horseman,
John W.
Galbreath
had a
rearing
and
breeding
farm –
Darby Dan
Farm in
Lexington,
Kentucky.
At two,
Proud
Truth made
only two
winning
starts and
in the
next
racing
season, he
became one
of the
early
favorites
for the
Kentucky
Derby. For
a couple
of months,
he was
plagued by
injuries.
When he
came back
o racing
ground,
everyone
gave him a
grand
welcome
and he was
taken as
one of the
early
favorites
for
winning
the Triple
Crown
races. He
could not
race so
far so it
was
expected
out of him
in the
Kentucky
Derby he
finished
fifth and
he did not
race in
the second
leg of the
Triple
Crown –
the
Preakness
Stakes. He
was the
fifth
betting
choice in
the
Breeders’
Cup
Classic,
which he
eventually
won. Under
jockey
Jorge
Velasquez,
he ran
from
behind
powerfully
and
defeated a
strong
field of
contenders
. In 1991,
Proud
Truth was
sent for
the
service to
stand at
Corbett
Farm near
Monkton,
Maryland
and
thereafter
in 1999 to
Haras
Cerro
Punta in
Panama. In
2005, he
died at
Haras
Cerro
Punta
suffering
from a
bout of
colic.
